The wonderful of Diapers

So we have been researching diapers and what is cheap and whats not and what will help us out the most. Some people from the last ward we were in told us about this thing amazon does called Subscribe and Save. Basically you can subscribe to recieve bulk items including wipes and diapers at selected intervals like every month or every 6 months. You get a certain percentage off the cost plus free shipping. So for Pampers you could get a box of 200 diapers for like 24 bucks shipped to your door, a pretty good deal. We compared it to a few other things like Diaper.com and walmart and it was cheaper by far when it comes to name brand.

The other thing we have been looking at is going with cloth. The catch here is the startup, but once you get past that it is definitely the cheaper route. You can make it really expensive at the startup by buying into all their allin one and organic junk, or you can by some nifty one size fits all covers, and prefolds or flats, and you are good to go.

Right now we are putting our money into the cheapest month to month disposable cost by buying walmarts parents choice brand. and up until very recently they were not all that special. They have apparently done some improvements and i must say i am impressed. They have become alot more like the pampers diapers, they have a way better fit, and wrap around the waist much better than before, i'm not sure that you would really be able to tell the difference other than the names and colors, oh yeah and the definitely cheaper price. I would definitely recommend these over putting the extra cash into name brands.

So you might be wondering what our final decision is, while we were tempted when we saw the new parents choice diapers to stick with those, we have decided that cloth would be way better in the long run. who can say no to cutting out the extra month to month cost. We will be recieving some diaper covers in the mail sometime next week probably, and we already have some cloth diapers to give it a try. If we are totally impressed we will invest a little more into it, but for now i think we are good to go. I will update you on how it works out.

  1. cloth diapers are awesome! my aunt laura has done cloth diapers for both of her kids and i must say i was pretty involved in the process. they are way cheaper than disposable in the long run, and you can use them for all of your kids. and they're honestly not all that much extra work, aside from having to rinse the poopy ones out and an extra load of laundry a day. great choice. which brand did you go with?

  2. oh one bit of advise about buying cloth. if it were me, i'd get cloth diapers that fasten with snaps rather than velcro. after being washed for several months the velcro stops sticking as well, and also, babies figure out how to undo the velcro pretty fast. the snaps are great, because even clyde couldn't ever really get them off, until he was around two, and even then, if he did take off his diaper, he'd be more likely to pull it off than take the time to undo the snaps. but that's just my opinion

  3. not to completely overload you with my opinion, but i thought i'd tell you which brands my aunt laura used. bumgenius, which i liked, aside from the velcro (and i checked their website and i think they may make a snap diaper now) and the fact that the elastic in the legs started going out on some of them once we got past year two or three of using them. fuzzibunz i liked pretty well, but i didn't like putting the inserts in these (or in the bumgenius for that matter) just because of the way that the inside of the pocket felt, it was weirdly grippy... but that's just me, and it's not a huge deal. my favorite (for the whole insert texture thing, and the snaps) was the smartipants. and when nathan and i have a baby, that's probably the brand i'm going to go with (if nathan lets me do cloth that is). they have this sleeve that you put the inserts in instead of sticking them between the soft inside and the waterproof outside. i can't really think of a con for the smartipants, but i'm slightly biased about those ones. but any of those three would be a good choice. they all come in super cute colors. so anyway, that's a bit of my opinion on cloth diapers...
